Poetry by Hannah Johnson

A Name

Earth gathered and life breathed through a soul.
Man created.
Speaking to the deceased,
“Lazarus, come forth!”
Sacrifice that lives again.
A name, yet not so plain a name.
The sound of water over sand,
so clean and bright and out of hand.
Rushing forth to break a dam,
the same in us did God the Lamb.
Growing strong like flowers abloom
to love, be loved, and all consume.
The name of God,
unwavering in might,
is sweet to His child as day turns to night.
So a name, yet not so plain a name
is all one needs to take your blame.

The Provider for Birds

The sun caresses gently on fluttering feathered wings
as they climb to reach the Master and Provider of necessities.
Oh, how great His love for birds above!
Yet greater still, His love re-spills
on every child of God.
When morning comes the replenishing Son
pours out,
exterminates doubt,
and loves till the closing dawn.
Tomorrow will be,
yet I am set free
so as worry and pain cannot hinder me.
For love is more than love when sent down from the Holy Dove
and Him who has knowledge of life
both below and above.

The Sun, the Moon, and God Above

The sun illuminates throughout the day,
the moon at night the same.
The glory of unending light was brought when Jesus came.
The sun, the moon, and God above
brought meaning to my life.
Their rays ignite with great delight
to shatter all my pain.
